MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

LET'S TALK ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH

What is Mental Health?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) affirms that Mental Health is "More than just the absence of mental disorders or disabilities."

The WHO defines Mental health as "the state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community."

Our mental health is on a spectrum, and can range from good to poor. Good mental health can help us to think positively, feel confident and act calmly.  If we have poor mental health, we might find that the way we're thinking, feeling or acting becomes difficult to cope with. We might not enjoy things we used to like doing. We might feel sad or angry for a longer time than usual, or feel like we can’t control our thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

Every Mind Matters

Every Mind Matters encourages everyone to understand more about mental health, how to look after it, and how to support others.

Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA England) is excited to be a part of the Every Mind Matters campaign, delivered by Public Health England (PHE).
